  • Overview

What is my new studio website for?

It's a powerful new resource designed by the PracticeSpot team that is designed to help you attract new students, and excite the students you already have.

Each of your students can have their very own webpage at your studio site, and the PracticeSpot team has packed your website with all the tools you'll need to motivate, organize, inform and inspire your entire studio.

You can see a summary of the tools at your site here.

What can my students see on their own webpages?

Each student's own webpage acts as a record of their achievements in music lessons, a source of information for their parents, and helps to ensure that they are well prepared for their next lesson.

They can record how much practice they do, send messages to you, or read messages from you. You can send them "stickers" when they do great work, they can view practice instructions, key points from last lesson, a list of upcoming deadlines, together with newsletters, useful links, repertoire records, performance histories...and lots more.

When grandma asks "How are your lessons going?", the first thing the student will do is show her their webpage. It's all there.

There is an information page about your new website that you can print out and give to your students:

    http://www.practicepage.com/introletter.pdf (pdf) or
    http://www.practicepage.com/introletter.doc (Microsoft Word)

How do I visit my site?

If you are a subscriber to the free PracticeSpot newsletter, you should already have received an email from us with the address and password for your studio website. Just click on the link we supplied, and enter your password when prompted.

(If for some reason you did not receive that email, or have not yet subscribed to PracticeSpot and would like us to create a free site for you, please email us)

This is amazing! How much will it cost me?

Your studio website won't end up costing you a cent. Your own homepage at the site is permanently free, and there is no charge for simply adding students to your own records. Even if none of your students have a webpage of their own, your new site is a powerful tool for running and organizing your studio.

Should your students want their very own webpage at your site (so that they can log in at home), there is a small $4 quarterly hosting fee for each student. This would be charged to your credit card, but you would recoup the cost in full by simply adding the fee to your student's account - much as you would for new books or workshop entry fees.

So it ends up costing you nothing, and ends up costing each student almost nothing.

To get you started, we have thrown in three student webpages for free, so that you can try the whole adventure out for as long as you like without having to pay anything at all. (There's no 30 day trial - these are permanently free)

I'm a music teacher, not an IT guru - will I still be able to use this?

Absolutely. We've built it all so that you don't have to. Our very first rule in designing all of this was that it had to be easy enough for a computer novice music teacher, or a six year old kid. (We're not trying to draw parallels between the two here!)

We've filled your entire website with plenty of help, and our tech support team is on standby to take your questions. But we really will be surprised if you need it. Your website is much easier to use than a microwave oven (and a lot more useful for your teaching studio)

    Tailoring your website

Is it possible to turn off features that I am not planning on using?

Yes. No two music teachers will use their studio website in the same way, and we've made it very easy to turn off just about any tool you like. It takes seconds to switch off a tool - for a guide on how to do this, click here.

If you change your mind later, it's easy to switch tools back on again, so your site can evolve as your studio does.

So if you love using the StickerBook, but hate the idea of students recording how much practice they do, then disable the Practice Stats feature. It simply won't appear at the website in the first place.

Is it possible to then turn on or off features for individual students?

Yes. You can easily choose which features will be available on any individual student's webpage - for help on doing this, click here and scroll down.

This comes in handy if you have some students who would benefit greatly from (say) the Rewards System, and others whose parents hate the idea.

These settings don't have to match the settings for the entire studio. So you could turn off Studio Newsletters for everyone except one student if you wished.

    Getting Help

How do I get help with all of this?

We've put together a tutorial  - short sentences, jargon free, lots of illustrations, all designed to get you up and running with your studio website. We think you'll be amazed by how easy this actually is to use.

There is also extensive online help for every feature at your website - just click the question marks. And if you still can't find the help you need, your website includes a direct link to our tech support team. For more information check out our guide to getting online help

We have also put together articles filled with ideas on how to get the most out of your new website. (They are the smaller links at the top of each page in this guide)
